The Eastern regional minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong has intervened to ensure power is restored to some critical installations including health facilities in two municipalities in the region.
Some major health facilities in Manya and Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region have served notice that they may not be able to sustain healthcare delivery if the continuous power cuts in the two municipalities persist.
The affected health facilities include Atua Government Hospital, St Martins Hospital, Yilo District Hospital, Somanya polyclinic and the various CHIP compounds.
The absence of power in the two municipalities for close to a week is threatening quality healthcare delivery at various facilities.
Communities in both municipalities have not had electricity for the past seven days, after an alleged clash between the military and residents.

Talking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (3 August), Acheampong said he is optimistic power will be restored today.
“Honestly, this is my biggest challenge,” he said. “So, since yesterday we have been in conversation with the service provider to provide some emergency reliefs to the essential services.”
“You know besides the hospitals taking care of us in respect of our health, children are also writing their exams,… so the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service have brought that to my attention.”
“Discussions are very much advance and today I am following up to ensure we get those services provided to our people within the enclave. It’s an emergency condition, I am hoping by midday today, we should see some relief,” Acheampong said.
