NPP lost parliamentary seats in 2020 due to internal problems – NPP’s Solomon Asante

A national communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Soloman Asante, has explained why the party lost a good number of parliamentary seats during the 2020 general elections.

According to him, the party was faced with some internal difficulties prior to the election, and was the major cause of their losing a number of parliamentary seats.

Speaking on Prime Morning on Joy Prime, the NPP communications team member claimed that the party was focused on solving its challenges and paid less attention to the elections, which gave the NDC an opportunity to win.

“We as a party had our own internal issues, which led to that. That’s why that crop of national executives was all wiped out. It’s not because the NDC did better or the NPP didn’t do something well,” he told Roselyn Felli on Monday.

This has caused the party to change its national executives in order to restructure themselves and fight for a better win in 2024.

Another reason, according to him, is a reduction in the number of votes. This, he thinks, happened because the party failed to meet the expectations of most citizens during its first term in administration (i.e., from 2016 to 2020).

Mr. Asante asserted that the NPP has effectively improved Ghana’s economy amidst COVID-19, which was a global pandemic.

Therefore, he noted that ex-president Mahama’s administration disappointed Ghanaians, which has caused the electorate to be more vigilant in terms of votes.

“Mahama said Ghanaians are of short memory, but I want to tell you the electorate is now widely open and discerning,” he said.
