Late Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, C. K Tedam is to be given a State Burial at his hometown Paga, Upper East Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced.
Additionally, a befitting and an appropriate memorial is to be identified to immortalize Mr Tedam, who played an integral and vibrant part in the development of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia political tradition
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement when the family of the late elder statesman and astute politician, called on him at the Jubilee House in Accra to inform him officially of his passing.
Mr Clement Kubindiwu Tedam until his death last April was the last surviving member of the Northern People’s Party, the first NPP.
President Akufo Addo who described the late Tedam as a great Ghanaian patriot, recalled the role the he played in the resolution of the crisis that engulfed the NPP prior to the 2016 election.
He said the strength of Mr Tedam’s character and spiritedness, coupled with the clever manner, he negotiated the impasse during that period was instrumental in securing the victory for the NPP in last election.
“In the recent life of NPP, the role he played in steadying the ship of our party when it was under threat from people with misguided ideas about how to progress the work of our party that is something that would feature very strongly in any narrative about C.K. Tedam.
“In that difficult year of 2015, his strength, his courage, his insistence of principle, tradition and culture of our party helped take us through the threat that was opposed to the stability of our party and to the prospects of the victory of the party the year after,” the President said.
President insisted that “Devoting the victory of 2016 to him would not be out of place whatsoever because of the tremendous role he played in steadying the ship of our party in 2015.”
He assured the family that government would ensure that Mr Tedam was given a befitting farewell.
Col. John Obibah Kuseh, spokesperson for the family who expressed appreciation to the President for the decision to give Mr Tedam. A state burial, disclosed that he would be buried on. June 22, 2019.
