A member of the National Communications Team of the ruling New Patriotic Party have cautioned all Ministers, MPs and Appointees of the John Mahama led NDC Government who would be found to have been engaged in any act of corruption to brace themselves up for prosecution in the coming months.
He made this comments during a news paper review show on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation ‘s (GBC) Uniiq FM 95.7mhz. Mr Akowuah, who was responding to alleged attempt made by their Nana Akufo-Addo government appointees to frustrate the work of the the Special Persecutor, Hon Martin Amidu said;
“Inasmuch as some of us in the NPP are in a hurry to see corrupt appointees of the erstwhile NDC Government prosecuted, we are minded by the steps been taken by the Chief of Staff and Attorney General to ensure that the office of the special prosecutor is fully resourced”
He further explained that, “prosecution of public officers and especially politicians have always been interpreted as political persecution so it is important the investigative bodies do a proper due diligence before bringing Mahama appointees before the law.”
In the lead up the 2016 Elections, the then opposition party, the NPP, campaign vigorously campaign against the ruling NDC government describing them as incompetent and corrupt people milking the nation. The NPP campaign was bridled with a litany of corruption allegations against the John Mahama led government.
The NPP promised Ghanaians they will prosecute and retrieve all monies ‘stolen’ by NDC officials. This led to the establishment of the establishment of the office of the special prosecutor headed by the most touted citizen vigilante, Hon. Martin Amidu.
After close to 2 years of an NPP led administration, some supporters seem to be running out of patience due to their inability to prosecute not even one of the supposed corrupt appointees of the former government.
A very voceferous member of the NDC Communications Team, Sammy Gyamfi has dared the NPP to prosecute the NDC appointees if they are found culpable of any corrupt act.
Mr Akowuah reiterated his caution later on Atinka FM’s Evening Political Show stating that, “The corrupt appointees of the NDC should get ready to conduct their campaigns in the supreme court and Nsawam prison. We aware of those who have started pleading for mercy through their chiefs and pastors but no one will be left off the took.”
We campaigned and trumpeted into the ears of Ghanaians the the NDC is corrupt so Ghanaians are going to hold us accountable. We have a duty to ensure that every corrupt public servant is brought to book. How can the poor Ghanaian contribute taxes for those who have had the rare privileged to serve the nation Tobe milking us? He retorted.
