Vice President Bawumia presents 109 vehicles to the Police

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on Thursday handed-over 109 vehicles to the Ghana Police Service to ramp up their logistical and operational needs and to ensure efficient policing.

They comprised 16 buses, five towing vehicles, four water tankers, 50 pick-ups, five ambulances, 10 Toyota Landcruisers V8 and 19 Toyota Landcruiser Troopers.

At a brief handing-over ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra, Vice President Bawumia said for any democratic nation to survive and thrive, it was prudent to equip the Police Service with the requisite logistics and equipment to maintain law and order.

He said since 2017, the Government had provided 481 vehicles to the Police Service, while a bill of laden was received for another 109 vehicles expected to be delivered in the next three months.

Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister of Interior expressed government’s commitment to equip the Police with the requisite logistics and urged the Police Administration to efficiently utilise them to maintain law and order in the country.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr Oppong Boanuh, on behalf of the Police Administration, expressed his profound appreciation to the Government for the support and promised to put the vehicles to good use and maintain them for a longer life span.

He said the Police Service, over the years, struggled to perform its constitutional mandate effectively due to inadequate logistics and personnel and believed the additional vehicles would boost its operations and live up to the expectation of Ghanaians.

He said with the provision of the vehicles coupled with the ongoing construction works of 320 housing units for the Service, it would boost their morale to give off their best.
